Theft of property and it's limits on a homeowners policy
“It is always someone else, until it is you.” No one wants to be a victim of burglary and most of us think it will never happen, but every 15 minutes someone is burglarized.
And when it is you, there are some things you should know.
Since most burglaries involve you losing valuable articles and items when these losses occur, people will look to their home or renters insurance policy to respond and replace the items that were lost and to put things back to normal. That is why we buy these policies.
Depending on the type of policy you have, it will cover most to all the things stolen. I say most to all for a reason because you have limits for theft of certain items. Items that have limitations are:
- Jewelry
- Guns
- Silverware
- China
- Fine arts & Collectibles
- depending on the company there could be others
One example is that most companies limit theft of jewelry to $1,500 $2,000 dollars. I would assume that a large sum of people reading this have more than that on their fingers.
The good news is that you can insure your jewelry up to its full amount, you just have to schedule (list) these items separately. The cost is minimal and in the process, you pick up some other coverage’s to broaden your protection as well.
Call your local agent or myself and ask about this. ” It’s always someone else, until it is you.”
